Background on Gail Davis of GDA Speakers:

Gail Davis is the Founder and President of GDA Speakers. Under her passionate leadership, GDA Speakers has vetted and curated a number of highly qualified speakers who they trust and deliver with confidence. In the first 17 years, they assembled a database of over 5,000 speakers. Then in order to add more value to their clients they cut the list in half. Only featuring and working with the top speakers in each of the many categories sought by their clients.

Her successful business approach and passion have also impacted the industry. Previously, she has served as president and convention chair of the International Association of Speakers Bureaus (IASB); her company has also been honored with numerous awards from that organization.

Davis is a member of the Entrepreneur Organization. She is also a supporter of numerous community organizations. She was named to the University of Oklahoma Gaylord College Board of Visitors in 2014. She served as co-chair of the highly successful 2014 Soup’s On! Luncheon, which is the major fundraising force of The Stewpot Alliance benefiting the programs of The Stewpot in Dallas. In 2011, the Dallas Business Journal honored her as one of Dallas’ Top 25 Women in Business.

  • [5:28] After college, Gail worked at EDS (Electronic Data Systems), which is a company founded by Ross Perot.

  • [12:55] In 1999, she decided to leave EDS. She also considers it a good time to start her own company.
  • [14:47] At first, she had her office at home, but then as business picked up she moved to an office one mile from her home. As the business grew, she was convinced by her kids to move the company to Dallas.
  • [18:54] 9-11 was a memorable date for Gail because her speaker had to go to this event in St. Louis.
  • [24:25] Gail made two decisions that really pushed and re-energized her company to the next level. The first one was being a part of the industry association.
  • [25:53] According to Gail, joining the industry association was very helpful for her business.
  • [27:55] Joining the EO or the Entrepreneur Organization is the second decision that moved her business in the right direction.
  • [32:59] Gail invested in a back office software program that she thinks is critical in the rapid scaling of her business.
  • [37:38] She learned the importance of having an effective hiring process and create a more balanced sales team.
  • [46:44] Focusing on their core values or practice values was important in creating the culture within the company. Gail hired the business coach to work on the company’s practice values.
